Bedroom plastering in Bishopsworth, Bristol. Artexed ceilings, papered walls and old patching taken back to a flat finish, in bedrooms, nurseries and loft rooms across Bristol.
Artex can usually be skimmed once the peaks are knocked back and the surface sealed. Wallpaper is different and should come off first, because plaster laid over paper pulls away as it dries. Stripping is part of the job, so nothing gets covered up rather than dealt with.
More Information
Bedroom ceilings often carry the most damage in a house, from old light fittings, loft hatches and past leaks. Overboarding a poor ceiling before skimming gives a better result than trying to save it. Coving can be fitted after, once the plaster has dried right through.
Bedrooms are the easiest room to empty, which is why most people start here. Fitted wardrobes cannot move, so we plaster up to them and protect the doors. If a wardrobe is coming out anyway, taking it out first means the wall behind gets done properly rather than left.
Bedrooms are usually the first room a new customer books, partly because they can be closed off while the plaster dries. From there a lot of jobs grow into the landing, the hallway and the rest of the house. We have plastered Bristol bedrooms for 15 years, including plenty of loft conversions.

STILL NOT SURE?
The room is safe to use the next day, but it will feel damp and cold for the first few days while the water comes out of the plaster. Most people give it two or three nights with the window open. Painting should wait two to four weeks until the plaster has gone evenly pale.
Usually yes. The high points are scraped back, the surface is sealed and then skimmed. If the Artex is very heavily patterned or loose, overboarding gives a flatter, more reliable result. Artex from before the mid 1980s may contain asbestos and should be tested before anyone disturbs it.
Yes, and it is a regular job for us. Loft rooms are usually new plasterboard, so the joints are taped and the whole room skimmed for a flat finish. Sloping ceilings, dormers and window reveals all take extra time, which is included in the quote rather than added later.
