Venetian plastering in Bishopsworth, Bristol, applied by hand in thin layers and burnished to a polished finish. It is the work we are best known for, and after 15 years it is still the part of the job we enjoy most.
Venetian plaster is made from slaked lime and finely ground marble dust. It is not a paint or a wallpaper. It goes on wet, in very thin coats, and hardens into a solid mineral surface. Because the marble dust catches light at different angles, the wall has depth and movement rather than one flat colour.
More Information
The wall is made flat first, then a base coat goes on. After that come two or three thin coats, each pressed on at an angle with a steel trowel. Once the last coat has started to set, the surface is burnished. That final pass is what brings up the sheen. Each stage has to dry before the next.
It works anywhere you want a wall to be the thing people notice: living rooms, dining rooms, hallways and bedrooms. Sealed, it also stands up to bathrooms and kitchens. Rooms with good natural light show it off best, because the sheen changes as the light moves through the day.
Venetian plastering is the reason most people call us. It is a finish that takes years to get consistent, because the pressure on the trowel and the timing between coats decide how it looks. Daniel Conn Plastering and Tiling has been applying it across Bristol for 15 years, on single feature walls and on whole rooms.

Plastering and tiling under one trade
It is priced by the square metre and costs more than standard plastering, because the material is more expensive and each coat is applied by hand. A single feature wall is the cheapest way in. We measure up and quote for free, so you can compare a feature wall against a full room before deciding.
Yes. Once it has cured it is a hard mineral surface, harder than paint, and it does not scuff the way emulsion does. It can be sealed or waxed for extra protection in busy rooms. If it ever does get marked, it can be repaired and reburnished rather than stripped off.
A single wall usually takes two days once the wall underneath is ready, because each coat has to dry before the next goes on. A full room takes three to four days. If the wall needs replastering first, add drying time for that before the Venetian work can start.
