Polished Venetian plaster walls in Bishopsworth, Bristol. Burnished by hand until the surface takes on a soft sheen and a depth that paint cannot give you, on single walls or whole rooms.
The shine does not come from a varnish. It comes from pressing the plaster hard with a clean steel trowel as it starts to set, which compacts the surface and closes it up. The harder and longer it is worked, the deeper the sheen. That final pass is done by feel, not by clock.
More Information
Polished plaster is hard once cured, but a sealer or a wax adds water resistance and makes marks easier to wipe off. Wax gives a warmer, deeper look and needs occasional reapplication. A sealer is more practical for kitchens, bathrooms and hallways. We will talk through which fits the room.
A whole room in polished plaster feels enclosed and calm and works well in a dining room, snug or bedroom. In a bright, busy room one wall is usually enough. Cost is a factor too, since this is priced by the square metre and four walls is four times one.
Polished walls are the heart of what Daniel Conn Plastering and Tiling does. Fifteen years of applying this finish across Bristol means we can read how a plaster is behaving on the day, which is most of the job. Temperature, damp and how the wall was prepared all change the timing of that last burnish.

Yes, with a damp cloth and plain water once the wall has been sealed or waxed. Avoid bleach and anything acidic, since the plaster is lime based and strong cleaners dull the polish. Marks that will not lift can usually be burnished out rather than needing the wall redone.
Usually yes, if the paint is sound and not flaking. The wall is cleaned, any damage made good and a base coat applied to give the plaster something to grip. Walls with blown plaster, damp or heavy texture need putting right first, which we check before quoting.
Decades, in normal use. It is a mineral surface that hardens over time rather than a coating that wears off, so it does not need repainting the way emulsion does. A waxed wall benefits from fresh wax every few years, which is a light job rather than a redecoration.
